usually if you do this you,ll get a bubble in it you cant get out of it,,that's why most people don't even try it ,,its not really a good idea,to do this,i have seen a few people do this,,and it usually turns out bad,,i wouldn't waste my time and money on doing it,,good luck hope this help,s.

Question by b house: Question on the subject of Window Tinting? I am looking into getting my car windows tinted. I'm getting it mainly for security purposes, the sun doesn't bother me very much. Anyway, my question is, are cops fairly lenient on the darkness of the tint. I often see cars in my town with pitch black tint and many people I know don't really catch heat from the police. I also want to get the darkest tint possible, but not at the cost of a ticket and having to remove something I payed good money for. The tint regulation where I live is 28% VLT I think. Do you think that will be dark enough to deter thieves. Also, if it's not pitch black or close to it, what is the next darkest that I could get away with? And will i be able to find shops to bend the rules a little and install it for me? Any help/advice is much appreciated and thank you.

I don't know what state you're in, but here in NY you can black out your back window and your back passenger windows.... but up front i wouldn't push it. it doesn't matter if your friends get tickets or not, they may have a parent thats a cop or judge or whatever. do whats best for you, and in either case, 28% tint is dark enough at night to deter any window-browsing thief.

How To Remove Tint On Car Windows

How To Remove Tint On Car Windows

First off, here is what you will need.

- Bucket of soapy water (brand doesn't matter)
- 2 Large Spray bottle
- Large Black Garbage Bags
- Tarp
- Super Fine Steel Wool
- Sharp Knife or Razor Blade
- Ammonia (make sure that it is undiluted)
- Windex
- Roll of paper towels
- Set aside Approximately 3 1/2 hours maybe longer your first time
- A nice warm sunny day is a must!

* Tint is made up of multiple layers of film.  If it is left under the warm sun, the garbage bag with the help to absorb the heat, making it easier to peel off the film
in one piece!  That is why it is a Must for a nice warm day!

Step 1.
Fill your Large spray bottle with soapy water from your bucket.

Step 2.
Hold black garbage bag up to your rear window and roughly cut out 2 pieces the shape of the window (one for the outside, and one for the inside that you will use later).  Take your spray bottle and coat the outside of the window with soapy water, then follow by covering it with the black garbage bag and smooth it until it is perfectly flat!

Step 3.
Make sure you Cover and protect everything on the inside of your vehicle near your rear window. Use your tarp to cover, seats, speakers, and anything else that could be harmed by the ammonia.  Next take your second spray bottle and spray the entire window film with your undiluted ammonia.

Its very important to remember, that Ammonia has a very strong smell.  I would recommend wearing a face mask, holding your breath or tying something around your face, to avoid the smell as much as possible.

Step 4.
Now that the window is still wet from ammonia, you need to trap the ammonia on the window film, with the 2nd garbage bag (the one you cut out earlier).  Make sure the rear window is pointed in the direction of the sun for at least an hour or two to help soften the tint's adhesive.

Step 5.
Once you have completed step 4, you are ready to start peeling the window film.  Start in the corner of the window and try lifting the film with your knife or razor blade. Once it is started continue to peel the film off in one piece!  Make sure that you keep in moist with your spray bottle of ammonia as you strip it away.  Use your razor blade to remove and pieces left behind.  Its very important to make sure you do not cut the defroster lines, so pay attention as you are scraping!

Step 6.

Last but not least, Remove any leftover adhesive with your ammonia and steel wool, making sure to wipe it with a paper towel before it dries!  Then, remove exterior garbage bag, and using paper towels and your windex make sure to clean your window thoroughly!

Removing the window tint from your car windows may sound pretty straightforward and for the most part, it is. However, it can often be more time consuming than putting the tint on in the first place. If you plan to remove your own window tint, make sure that you allot enough time to do so. There is a little more involved in this task than simply stripping the old tint away. If it was put on properly then it will be stuck on very well. Make sure that you have all that you need to get started in this job before you get to it.

This job is best done on a sunny day because heat is necessary. It could take a long time if the tint is really stuck on and you will end up suffering if it is incredibly hot out. Most tint has two layers, one of which will be relatively easy to get off while the other will be quite difficult. It is essential that you attempt to remove both layers together otherwise you will be stuck picking away at the second layer, possibly for hours. It is extremely important to note that back window tint is stuck on the defrost lines. Take extreme caution or you risk damaging some of those lines.

If you have any type of obstructions around the window, like speakers or anything else, make sure to move it. More obstacles in your way are only going to hinder your progress. Use a garbage bag for this next step. You will have to cut it quite large so that it fits over your entire window. Spray the outside of the window with water and lay the bag over top of it. Now you must get on the inside of the car with some ammonia, which must be used with the utmost in safety and care. Spray the inside of the window with the ammonia and then park the car in the sun. Do not breathe any ammonia in. Cover the ammonia with plastic as well to prevent evaporation.

The point of doing this is to get the glue on the window tint to loosen so that it can be easily peeled. Let the window sit facing the sun for an hour or so. After that you should be able to peel back the tint. Leave the bag on the window and use a razor blade to peel off the tint slowly, starting at the edge. After you get the tint off you will have to immediately start on the cleanup of the window. Use fine steel wool and some more ammonia to get the adhesive off. Quite often the ammonia is only needed for back window tint. Side windows tend to be easier to deal with.

Give the entire window a good wash to remove the ammonia. Then go over it with some good window cleaner such as Windex. Remember, this is not generally a fast process. Be patient and take your time so that it comes off the first time you try it.

Window Tinting

Window Tinting This is especially helpful in the summertime when your car can reach over 200 degrees while sitting in the sun. Before tinting an aperture, you must clean the glass so that the film can adhere properly.

This will result in a professional looking tint job. Remove or tape back any flaps that touch the glass where it extends into your door.

You may have to remove the door panel. Alternatively, you may be able to tape back the flap with some tape.

Clean the window, both inside and outside. Use a solution of warm water and gentle soap.

A few drops of dishwashing soap or baby soap will work fine. Spray the glass and then scrape the water off with a fresh razor blade, taking care not to scratch the glass.

Remove the rest of the water and debris from the glass using a squeegee. Clean the squeegee after each swipe so that you do not transfer debris from one area to another.

The glass must be completely clean to get optimal results. The outside must also be clean if you plan on working or measuring the shade against the outside of the glass.

Spray the exterior of the aperture to be tinted with the detergent water. Allow it to dry completely.

Wet the exterior with your soapy solution. Lay out the film on the glass with liner side facing out.

Level the bottom edge of the liner with the bottom edge of the glass. Wet the liner side of the shade and squeegee gently to hold the film in position.

Line up the bottom edge of the shade with the bottom edge of the window. Make sure the film is covering the whole window.

Squeegee the shade onto the aperture gently to hold the film in place while cutting. Carefully use the utility knife to cut off all excess shade.

Try to cut as close to the edge of the aperture as possible as the exterior will be the same shape as the interior. Peel off the film when done cutting.

Clean the interior of the window with the detergent water. Use the soft scrub pad to ensure all dirt is removed.

Use a squeegee to remove water from the aperture. Wrap the microfiber cloth around a credit card and clean under all gaskets around the window.

Liberally apply the detergent water to the interior of the aperture. Put a piece of tape on each side of the shade near a corner.

Use these tape pieces like handles to make pulling film from the liner easier. As you pull the shade from the liner, spray the film with the detergent water.

Align the top of the shade with the top of the window. Use the squeegee to push the film firm onto the aperture.

As you are pushing the shade with the squeegee you will work the water out from between the film and window. Move down the aperture applying the shade in this manner.

Wrap the microfiber cloth in the credit card and soak up any water that is along the edges. Expect that for the first 3 to 5 days after your tint is installed, depending on weather conditions, your windows may appear to be a bit hazy.

This is not an indication of a problem, but is a normal part of the drying process. Clean the inside of your apertures, which is where the tint is installed, with a special glass cleaner made for tint.

You can purchase this through the dealer who installed your car's tinting. Mix together a 50/50 solution to clean your car tint that is made up commercially available cleaner and water.

Use a soft cloth to wipe your windows clean to ensure you will not scratch the film. Keep the outside of your aperture clean with any kind of glass cleaner you desire.

Since tint is installed on the inside of the glass, it is the only area that requires special treatment. Do not roll your windows down when your tint is new until you are sure it is completely dry.

In new cars the glass is actually tinted; it's easy to tell if you ever see a smashed window in a car; you would be able to tell if there had been a film on it. It's done that way because it's much cheaper than applying a film, and there's no risk of problems with the film peeling etc. On the other hand, aftermarket (meaning done after the car was made) tinting is done with a film applied to the inside of the glass, where there is a lot less wear and tear than if it was put on the outside. But even though the film's inside, after a few years it's not unusual to have problems like peeling, fading, bubbles, and discoloration. A lot of the quality of aftermarket tinting depends on having it done by a shop that has a lot of experience; you could use the best and fanciest film around, but if the person applying it doesn't know what they're doing, it won't look as good or last as long.

Tinting Car Windows If there is glare from the sun on your glass, driving can be a hazardous venture. Window shade can serve two purposes at once, depending on how dark your tint is.

If it is 5 percent, meaning that only 5 percent of the sun's light can filter into your glass, then it is dark enough so that others cannot see into your vehicle, giving you privacy. It is also dark enough to ensure that your vehicle keeps a good amount of sunlight from getting inside, helping to keep your vehicle cool.

The most common color of shade is black, but blue, red, yellow and a metallic mirror-like tint is also available. There are shops that specialize in glass tinting, either for homes and offices or vehicles.

For vehicles, there are also do-it-yourself kits, but this is not advised unless you have experience in glass tinting. You can easily damage your windows if you're not experienced.

Window shade can be used to protect your belongings as well. If the tint is dark enough to keep people from seeing in, then the valuables in your vehicle are protected because people walking by your parked car can't see what's in there.

The film is vacuum-sealed in a tank containing metals such as aluminum or nickel. A heated gas in the tank causes these metals to coat the tint, creating a dark surface.

Like deposited film, sputtered film is also created in a vacuum. Sputtering also uses metals, but the process is different.

Positive ions are used to bombard the metal at the atomic level. These particles are collected on ultra-clear polyester or the basic film which is later applied to the window.

Sputtered film uses no dyes or pigments, and the metals used generally will not oxidize. Sputtered film is also known for having less reflection, leading to a clearer view.

A hybrid film is, as the name suggests, a shade that uses a combination of procedures--generally a dyed film that also uses metals. Hybrid films can generally offer very good heat- and UV-blocking capabilities, but with less reflection and less overall darkness.

More light comes in, leading to a glass that has less of a tinted look. Before tinting your vehicle's windows, make sure that you know your state laws concerning tinting.

Most reputable shops will tell you what is allowed by law. If you get shade that is considered illegal and are stopped by the police, they can cite you for illegal tinting and make you remove it, which can sometimes cost more than the original shade job did.

Make sure that you research local shade shops before deciding on one. Window tinting is a very delicate procedure and requires a professional hand.

How to remove the sun baked purple window tint

The art of removing window tint has been around for many years now and is some what of a technical skill. The window films produced in the late 1980's and 1990's are not as well constructed as the films today for several reasons. Those films are made of dyed polyester and don't have the UV protection that some of the premium films have today.

The good thing for you is that most films are not that hard to remove. You just need a couple of tools and some guidance. I will go into detail about the proper steps to take when removing this troublesome material from your glass.

The Razor Blade and Heat Gun Technique:

First take the heat gun and get the film warmed up on both sides of the glass while remembering not to burn the moldings and door panel of the subject vehicle. After the glass and tint has become hot to the touch take your razor scraper with stainless steel blades and start in a top corner of the window and gently cause the tint to peel.

After you get the peel moving with your fingers begin to pull the tint down evenly across the window while keeping the heat gun moving around. After the tint has been pulled off simply spray the left over adhesive with a solution of water and baby shampoo and begin the scraping process.

The Steamer and Razor Blade Technique:

This technique is the fastest but it requires an investment into a steamer that's setup for this type of work. Steaming the tint heats up the material also helping the window tint adhesive remove itself with the tint. The steamer generally will not hurt the car but it can cause burns to your hands therefore be careful. When you get the tint starting to pull away just keep steaming and pulling until the tint is removed. Then steam and scrape all areas in the window tint process that are left over.

The Scrape and scrape and scrape Technique:

This is the worst case scenario technique of them all and also carries the most liability. Some vehicles have window tint that has been baked on by the sun for so long that its difficult to remove. The worst area for this is located in the back glass of today's cars and trucks. By scraping these areas you can damage the rear defrosters and cause them to no longer function. This technique should be performed by a trained and professional window-tint remover.

Question by alyssa_687: Car window tinting? I have a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon and the windows are not currently tinted. I got an estimate a week ago on 35% tint and they said it would be $ 139.00 without the 6 inch windshield strip, and $ 149.00 with the strip. My parents think it is pointless to tint my car windows because they say it lowers the value of the car and then it just bubbles and looks really bad. Well, the place I got an estimate from said that it lasts approx. 7 years before bubbling and things like that, plus there is a lifetime warranty on it so I can get it fixed whenever I need. I think that 7 years from now I won't even have that car since it's a 2-door and by then I'll probably have kids and need a 4-door. I also like the idea of keeping the inside of the car cooler during the summer and protecting against UVA and UVB rays. So, am I right or are my parents right? Should I somehow try to convince them that it is a good thing? I really want them tinted! Also, my car is under my dads name for now so I can't really do it without his consent. I meant to ask, If I get them tinted and for some reason need to take it off, won't there still be adhesive (or glue) on my windows? The guy told me that there will be and they have to scrape your windows to get it off. I wouldn't want them to do that because they could scratch my windows.

Your right. Tint will last about 5 years if installed right. Warranty is useless if the company goes out of business or changes names. (common)
